Taps
Lever, capstan handles or sensor controls are the minimum. Flick
mixer taps are preferred by most people.
Bathrooms
Minimum 1600mm x 2000mm. Preferred 1900mm x 2300mm. This dimension
allows for a turning circle of approx 1675mm. This size then
determines the size of the room as none of the fixtures in the room
(eg: hand basin) can intrude into this space. For a manual
wheelchair user this size could probably be reduced to 1500mm.
Underneath basins must be clear to allow wheelchair access. "P"
traps are preferred.
Laundries
Tubs will need to be matched to the client's abilities. A wheelchair
user may prefer a kitchen sink so they can use a frontal approach.
If a regular tub is preferred consider mounting the taps at the side
of the bowl.
