Toilets

A toilet should be in the bathroom so it is available while PWD are showering. Height to the top of the seat must be 460mm ‑ 480mm. Slippery plastic seats are not safe enough. Moulded plastic seats with strong fastenings are preferred. The whole floor should be waterproofed and extended to lower walls.

Further suggestions are beyond the scope of this guide. Further advice should be sought from your local Council or from the Bundaberg Regional Access Advisory Committee (BRAAC).

Note: Care should be taken with the layout of toilets for PWD. The outlet pipe must be an extra 50mm from the wall to ensure the front of the pan is 800mm from the wall.
This is a critical size for many wheelchair users. The lateral measurement is conventional.
